Food Assistance
Information Update |
|
We want to make families receiving SNAP Benefits (also referred to as Bridge Card, food stamps, food assistance) aware that the MDHHS has announced it's plan for release of February SNAP Benefits. Michigan will begin issuing February benefits Saturday, January 19, 2019. Clients who do not receive their benefits on that date should receive the funds the following week. The early food assistance benefits are NOT additional benefits and there will be no food assistance payments in the month of February. If you need to check the balance on your Bridge Card to monitor usage, call the EBT Customer Service Line at 888-678-8914. If SNAP recipients have questions about these changes, they are welcome to call the Food Bank Council of Michigan’s SNAP Helpline at: 1-888-544-8773.

Kindergarten Enrollment Information
Parents may enroll a child who resides in the school district in kindergarten if the child is at least 5 years of age on September 1 of the school year of enrollment. If a child does not meet the minimum age requirement, but will turn 5 years of age not later than December 1 of that school year, the district could enroll the child for that school year if the parent or legal guardian notifies the district in writing that he or she intends to enroll the child in kindergarten for that school year.
We look forward to welcoming our youngest students in the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District for the 2018-19 school year.

Early/Middle College Program |
|
Not only can WBSD students earn their high school diploma but they can also earn an associate degree one year after completing high school. In partnership with the Wayne County Community College District, students may now pursue a tuition-free associate degree while attending high school. Our first cohort of students began taking classes at Wayne County's Taylor campus in September 2017. We are now into our third cohort with over 100 students well on their way to earning an associate degree. For more information on this one-of-a-kind program, visit Early/Middle College.

District Water Testing Results
The Woodhaven-Brownstown School District, as a proactive measure, contracted Arch Environmental Group to conduct drinking water tests for lead. AEG tested "first draw" and drinking water samples in all eight of the district's school buildings. We're pleased to report that water from all of the outlets tested well below levels established by the Environmental Protection Agency.
"The safety and well-being of our students and staff has always remained our top priority, so we are obviously pleased with the water resting results," said Superintendent Mark Greathead. "Arch Environmental has informed us that no further action is required and we would like to thank them for the thorough testing of the drinking water in our buildings." |
